Know about PCS-J Exam!

The Provincial Civil Service Judicial Exam (PCS-J) is a competitive examination in India for law graduates aspiring to serve in the judiciary. Conducted by State Judicial Authorities, Eligibility requires Indian nationality, a law degree. Exam formats vary by state, typically comprising Preliminary (Objective) and Mains (Written) stages covering legal topics. Successful candidates play crucial roles in the  Judicial services  of the Indian legal system, ensuring fair and just judicial proceedings in their respective states.

  • The candidate must be an Indian National.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Law (Five-year/three-year LLB) from a recognized Indian University is mandatory.
  • The aspirant must be enrolled as an Advocate under the Advocates Act 1961 and possess membership in the State Bar Council.
  • For higher Judiciary Services, the candidate must have practiced for a minimum of seven years in litigation, in addition to meeting the aforementioned criteria.
  • State-specific eligibility criteria may vary, and candidates must confirm details from the official websites and examination portals of the respective states.
  • The age limit for the PCS-J examinations varies from state to state and typically falls within a specified range. Age limit details for each state should be checked from official sources.
     
     
     

The application process for the Provincial Civil Service Judicial Exam (PCS-J) varies by state, and the information on application months and fees is subject to change. 

  • Application Period: The application period can vary from state to state. Typically, state judicial authorities release official notifications with detailed application information. It’s common for the application window to be open for a specific period, and candidates must submit their applications within that timeframe.

  • Application Fees: The application fee for the PCS-J exam also varies by state. The fee structure may differ for candidates belonging to different categories (General, SC/ST, OBC, etc.). Details regarding application fees are usually provided in the official exam notifications.

  • Notification Release: State authorities release detailed notifications well in advance of the examination date. These notifications include information on eligibility criteria, exam pattern, syllabus, application process, and important dates.

All the original documents are NOT to be submitted here. Original documents are strict to be submitted during the time of admission at respective universities. The following documents are required during registration-

  • Recent Passport size photo with a white background 
  • A scanned signature document of the aspirant
  • Educational qualification documents (mainly results)
  • BPL Certificate (If it is applicable)
  • PWD Certificate (If it is applicable)
  • SC/ST/OBC Certificate (If any of the categories is applicable)
