What is the AILET Examination?

AILET (that is the All-India Law Entrance Test) is an examination that is conducted by National Law University Delhi. The exams are held in the month of May. The Examination is for students to get admitted in a five-year course of B.A LL. B program. The online applications for the AILET Exam are available on their official website from a given date.

The Examination is usually conducted for both UG and PG level candidates. AILET is conducted once a year and in offline mode. The question paper is in English, so the Exam language is set as English and no other regional language.

AILET Examination is an All-India level, a law entrance exam for getting admitted to B.A. LL.B (Hons.), LL.M, and Ph.D. courses. This exam is conducted on a national level by the National Law University, Delhi. Due to the programs offered, there is a wide range of courses available to choose from. In this sector, we will discuss the AILET Registration Process, basic and advanced eligibility criteria, examination pattern, time and date, the application process, result, cut-off, etc.

AILET Examination Date and Time

  • The examination is usually conducted in the month of May. The timing for the exam is 10:00 AM-11:30 AM.

AILET Examination Pattern

AILET is an examination that tests a candidate’s aptitude and reasoning skills. The exam consists of five sections: Verbal Skills, Mathematics, Logical Reasoning, General Knowledge, and Legal Aptitude.

Verbal Ability has a total of 35 marks. Mathematics carries 10 marks. Logical Reasoning along with General Awareness and Legal Aptitude carry 35 marks each. This would make a total of 150 marks in a time-span of 90 minutes. For every correct answer, 1 mark is awarded and for every wrong answer, a negative marking of 0.25 mark is deducted.

AILET Examination Eligibility Criteria

Given are the eligibility criteria for the BA. LLB as well as LLM.

B.A LLB (Honours.) Criteria:

AILET Examination Educational Qualification: Any candidate who has appeared for the 12th Board Examinations and has secured more than 50% in their aggregate is considered eligible to apply for AILET 2021 Exam. 

It is important to take note of the fact that students who will be appearing for their 12th Boards in March or April are also considered eligible for the AILET Exam. Such students are required to provide evidence of their 12th Examinations passing during the time of admission. Candidates who do not provide this evidence at the time of admission shall not be included in the admission process.

AILET Examination Age Limit: Considering the lower age-limit as 18, there is no upper age limit set for the Exam.

LL.M Criteria:

  • Educational Qualification: Candidates should possess the LLB or an equivalent law degree from any reputed and recognized university.
  • Minimum Eligibility Marks: Candidates should obtain at least 55% marks (50% for the reserved candidates) in the qualifying exam.
  • For appearing Candidates: Candidates who are appearing for the examination in their last year of LLB are also considered eligible.

AILET Exam Registration Process

Following are the steps for registering for the exam

  1. Online Registration

Interested candidates or guardians are to visit the official website of NLU Delhi i.e. nludelhi.ac.in./ for registering for the AILET. They are required to create an account by providing some basic information about themselves.

  • Selection of the Programme

The interested candidates are to select the courses they are interested in and would be applying for. There are numerous courses, as the Exam is held for students for the undergraduate, postgraduate, and research levels.

  • Filling up the AILET Application Form

Interested candidates are required to fill up the application form to almost getting over the procedure. The details that would be required to fill in are factors like category, nationality, preferred Exam Centre, own Address, Education Qualification, etc.

  • Uploading Images

The next step would be scanning the images of the candidate’s recent photograph and an updated and clear signature of the candidate. This would be followed by the last step where the payment for the Application Fee is made. The payment could be done both through offline or online mode. 

AILET Application Procedure

Candidates who are interested in getting admitted to the undergraduate law courses that are exclusively offered by the NLU Delhi are required to collect and fill up the application form for the AILET Exam.

Here are the steps a candidate or the guardian is to follow to get and fill the application form.

  • Students must register themselves online. 
  • Then, they are required to download the form and fill it up 
  • Along with submitting the application form, they are to upload other documents too
  • Payment is to be made for the application fee

AILET Admit Card Information

The AILET Admit Card is usually available for all students in the month of May. Candidates can download the admit card from the official website after they are successful in the registration procedure. The AILET Admit Card is one of the most important documents for candidates who will be appearing for the AILET Examination.

Here’s why the AILET Admit Card is very important and is required to produce before sitting for the exam in the examination hall.

AILET Result Declaration

NLU Delhi declares the AILET Examination Result online mode on the official website of the University. After the declaration of the AILET result, the selected candidates are called in for the counseling procedure. The counseling process is conducted only in the offline mode at National Law University, Delhi itself. There are no further chances of admission to be held once the spot-round counseling has officially ended.

AILET Cut-off

The AILET cut-off is the minimum score (rather than the last rank) that indicates the admission that would be provided to each category. NLU Delhi usually releases the category-wise AILET cut-off list for various programs under the university during the time of counseling and seat allotment procedure.
